It depends on what you want to protect. It'll keep heat away from certain engine components and the spark plug wires. But header wrap also can trap moisture and cause the headers to rust from the outside. The new ceramic header coatings are much more effective - they keep the heat in just like header wraps, but do a much better job at protecting the header from corrosion.

I was always told heat was the main culprit of robbing power from your engine. You dont want to wrap the headers and hold the heat in. I was told not to use a chrome thermostat cover, cuz it would hold heat in. Yep chrome looks nice but holds in heat too.

I don't beleive it will make a difference. I don't think people do it for any other purpose other than nostalgic purposes. It was done on hot rods in the past. But as far as performance, it shouldn't make a difference.

you will always gain power when you keep more heat in the exhaust system couse it cuts down on parasitic heat under the hood and the hotter the pipe is the better it flows
