Are you self-taught or did you get lessons to play guitar?

I think I need lessons--I have been trying to teach myself for quite awhile.As they say,it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.lol

I did teach myself to play the guitar! I just got into music so much and My Father bought me a guitar for Christmas on year so I had to do something! Also the kind of music I did love to hear was easy to learn to play myself so that is what I did!! The first thing you should do if you wish to teach yourself is get a book that shows the Chords you wish to learn to play and that you need to know to play the Guitar! Also listen to a song after you buy the music to play it with! This makes it easy to learn to play any song that you want to play! The only funny thing about me is that I am Right handed but I cannot play the Guitar Right Handed. I had to learn to play it Left Handed. Why, I do not know!

both. i started with a few lessons. about 30 years ago. i played with a lot of other people to learn new things. even less experienced people have something you may learn from. i still take lessons from famous guitar players, just to get the experience. i got a lesson from Leslie West from Mountain a couple of years ago. that was cool. if you know who he is. he did that song called Mississippi Queen. well anyway, the best way to learn is to play with other people and practice. but if you want to play in a band start learning to play with other people, including lessons.

if you get lessons and you don't practice on your own, you are not going to get much better. There is one key to learning how to play the guitar....PRACTICE. If you are practicing and not learning new things, you should consider lessons to help progress. There are plenty of resources and tabs online for someone who is self-motivated and has the time.

i would get lessons, the only reason i know how to play guitar is because i had piano lessons when i was little, so get lesson's and become the best guitar player ever alive.
