Hello My Friend,

There is a good chance that there is a program that is installed that is running in the background a service in one of those folders. Chances are you probably already buggered up the system.

Best bet, if you know what program it is, remove it from the control panel in "Add and remove programs"

If you are really stuck, you may want to look at the file it gets stuck on, and then look in task manager, under processes to see if it is running.

Still, if you are stuck, restart your computers in safe mode by pressing the "f8" key right after the memory test. You should be able to delete the folder, but you will have residual problems.

There may be services that are trying to start from the All Users|Startup folder. There may be things in the Registry. Run the command "MSCONFIG" from the run box. Look under the "Startup" tab to see if you see any remnint of that folder or path you deleted. You want to take note of the command and location to delete it.

You are messing with things that are a bit advanced. Good luck.

Tom

If you are using a windows system the following usually works:

1. choose the "run" command from the start menu.
2. type in "cmd" and press return.
3. go to the directory the file is in using the CD command.
4. type the following : "attrib " and the complete name of the file.
5. This will show if it is Read, System or Hidden.
6. Next retype the command as in #4 and then place a minus sign and the first letter. (example: attrib this.fil -r)
7. then type del and the name of the file.

Hope this helps

You didn't mention what it is you are trying to delete but the message "file may be in use" means that you have a program open that is using that file. Not all files are meant to be deleted and this is your PCs way of safeguarding you from deleting something you need.

The file may be in opened. To stop it from running. press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and then choose the program and select "end task". You should now be able to delete the file. If not, restart your computer.

Try rebooting. If that doesn't work I've had some success deleting locked files over a network from another machine.

First off, try this:

- Restart your computer and repeat the process again.
- Or, you can boot in safe mode by restarting your computer and keep pressing the F8 Key until you have the option to Start In Safe Mode.

Hope this helps.
