Are the United Nations considered to be Non Profit? Or for example an international organization that is funded by a country but which is registered as a charity?

I'm applying for a fellowship in non profir management, but im not sure if i have the correct profile.

Non-profit simply means that revenue does not exceed expenditures. In the event that it does many NPO's will either place the additional revenue in the hands of executives or into their program. Many NPO's out-perform for-profit businesses and their executives are highly paid. It is an accounting thing, nothing more.

It means that they have registered and been approved by the federal and state governments as a charity, and are recognized as such. They don't have to pay income tax. They are eligible to apply for grants. They are expected to not have a surplus of money at the end of the year. Blah blah blah.
