I am trying my hand at creative writing. I would like to know how a person would go about being published. What steps to take and what not.
Please see my latest blog entry and leave a comment to tell me what you think.

TIA
Theresa

Getting books published is not always easy, and you need to be persistent and patient. Submitting manuscripts is a nail-biting experience, and they seldom get read within the first 90 days of submission. Publishers get hundreds of manuscripts every day and have to sift through them looking for something that will make them (and you) some money.

Writing children's books is sometimes a little easier, but I would not advise attempting to illustrate your own children's books, as publishers are very careful about the imagery and usually only employ trusted artists.

Make sure that the publisher you submit your manscript to is accepting manuscripts (if they aren't, they'll just throw yours away and probably never tell you), and make sure they are the appropriate publishers for your subject matter.

Listen to their criticisms and learn from them. Odds are, your first book won't get published, but you can learn a lot from writing it and submitting it.

What does it take to be published? Talent, voice, attitude, which is the ability to hang in there, never give up, do whatever it takes to sell your book, for as long as it takes.

Check out or buy a copy of The Writer's Market and search the list of publishing houses to find the right spot for your novel's genre. You can go to workshops or writer's conferences. You can join authorlink.com and display a portion of your book for editors and agents to see and possibly buy.

You might want to take creative writing courses. A good online school is writersonlineworkshops.com which offers a variety of workshops from grammar to fiction introduction to novel writing to advanced novel writing, short stories, marketing, plus.

Good luck!

Your best option would be to approach publishing houses in your area or your state and find out if what you're writing is what readers would like to have and how you can go about getting it out to them!!!!
