My mums king Charles spaniel was so stupid or clever she would only do something if there was food involved..........
If she could not smell food its like you did not exist she would just completely ignore you

Dogs are like humans. Each have different attitudes. It can probably be trained to act how you want it to act. I don't think there is anything with your dog, just his/her individual personality trait.
