I want to be able to get on the internet anywhere, like, not just inside my house, but in the car, at the park, etc.

So do i need to buy a PC Card AND a router, or just one of the two?

Please Help

No a router is to put more than one computer online a wifi card alone will get you online anywhere there is a wifi signal unless you get a card from sprint or cingular then you can get on anywhere.

You should be OK with just the laptop card so long as you can 'share' (i.e. steal) your neighbors wireless Internet connection ...

In fact, you can usually 'share' some-ones connection where-ever you are ...

Of course a lot of people don't like sharing so they put passwords and encryption on their wireless - but there are still a lot of places (schools, libraries, public buildings etc) where the idiots in charge haven't worked out why their Internet goes so slow every lunch time when the park out back fills with people & their laptops ...

id think you would need to buy a router with a relly large tramsion range, however you can buy cards that you put into your laptop so that you are able to connect to a mobile phone network

You don't need a router. Just a little usb wireless adaptor. You install it and click on the little symbol in the system tray and you can see all the available networks you can join.
