I think it's because it's set up and goes so quickly...like a flea.

Flea market comes from the French marché aux puces, a name originally given to a market in Paris. The fleas were thought to be in the goods, because they were of the kind to attract vermin. The earliest English use we have found dates from 1922.

Because, traditionally, the stuff for sale at such places was old and used, and therefore full of fleas and similar bugs.

Most flea markets nowadays are much better, and the things for sale are clean and neat.

because when you walk into the flea market and look at 80% of the people in there you cant help but think to yourself........."thank god i didnt bring my dog, half of these PEOPLE selling stuff has fleas"....

Because at the beginning of them, people sold and swapped animals and they carried fleas.
