Marijuana IS the top cash crop in several states, and most certainly in the top 10 nationwide. Even CNN had the same report. If only it were legal and taxed, the government could finance more legitimate and worthwhile law enforcement, and even afford to rebuild New Orleans, a travesty of misguided and fraud ridden funding gone bad when not even the schools have been rebuilt in all this time since Katrina.

Due to the inability of our government to ever admit a mistake, the common sense of legalization and taxation is in all likelihood not going to happen in my lifetime. The war on drugs has failed, miserably. It's high time for a new approach.

Marijuana is a lot much less risky than alcohol. Marijuana does not deliver approximately superior drugs, till you have an addictive character. Legalize it, tax it. this would first deliver extra sales to the rustic, 2d it may well be controlled sales, taking the criminals out of the photograph. enforce the same rules with marijuana as alcohol has.

I disagree with Gypsy... People can make their own beer, wine and whiskey too–but most people would rather buy it. They could grow their own vegatables–but most people don't. They could bake their own bread, cakes and cookies and most people don't.

Time to legalize pot already. We will never be able to stop the millions of smokers–ever. So let's use the money that would come from taxing it to fix some of the social problems that lead to drug use. TIME TO GET REAL!
Making marijana harder to get has destroyed more lives than making it legal ever will.

And George B is right! Funding covert operations is the real reason it is illegal.

Unfortunately no, it is too complicated a crop to tax. It can grow wild, and can easily be grown at home. The government could not insure that you would buy their marijuana, and that they would get the taxes from the sale. It will never happen.

As much as I'd like to see it happen, I don't think. The government wouldn't be able to regulate it. Poeple would grow thier own leaving the government out of making money in taxes on it. Damn the luck.

Legalization would be the common sense idea, which means our government will fight it tooth and nail until they're FORCED to legalize.
