Mosquitoes are attracted by smell. Block their smell and they get lost. DEET is a solution.

BTW I have heard of garlic but am unsure are effective they are. I am sure that DEET is good.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the "bomb" insect repellent. Make sure that no one is in the house while you turn this on... Go watch a movie or go shopping for 3 hours then, come back and to open all the windows... screen closed, thought so it can air out of the house...

Make sure to wash and clean all items that can be used for eating... Wipe all counters after so the pesticide is washed away.

Mosquito Barrier is pretty good, but a little bit expensive (85 for a gallon, but that's for 5 acres). They use garlic and other items... for a less smelly alternative use boiling hot water with rosemary and lemon, cool, then put in a spritzer bottle..... on the high end there are mosquito catchers that emit carbon dioxide and catch the mosquitos..... the link is for the natural solution for mosquito repellent and the mosquito barrier

I live in Alaska and we consider the mosquito as our "state bird". They're HUGE! I have tried almost every kind of repellant, and the best one I've found is Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus.

During the late spring, or middle of summer, whichever happens to be the mosquitoes most annoying times, I eat LOTS of onions.
I grind it and eat it in meals for about 3 days. I also drink onion juice. I'm assuming that mosquitoes hate the taste or smell of onions and they always leave me alone for the entire summer! It's the best cure I've ever found.

well considering mosquitoes are chemotactic (repelled and attracted by certain things) and are incredibly attracted to the CO2 you breath, you could try to stop breathing while outside
just a thought
