ITS SOOO NOT COOL!! and DONT think that ALL american teens do that kinda stuff!!! cause even though IM only 12, I have PLENTY of teen friends and they do NORMAL stuff for fun......however there are a LOT of teens out there that think its kool to get drunk and high..they do it because of peer pressure and stress and just plain wanting to fit in...they think that drugs and alcohol help them to get away from their sucky lives and they want to impress the're friends and their inferiors (also their superiors) so to answer your question...Teens think its cool and they like to break rules

because it is something they are told not to do.

thank about it your friends in Italy are allowed to drink, so it not something forbidding with them, and they don't see drinking as a big thing

where in America kids aren't allowed, even in small amounts with your meal. so drinking to American kids appeals because they are breaking the rules. But they are not thought how to drink responsibly so they drink to much.

drugs has a similar breaking the rules appeal, though I am not sure if there is much difference between American and European drug use among teens. I know some people from England and they mentioned doing drugs in there teens

maybe in this case you just happened to hang around the kids in America that do drugs but didn't in Italy

I don't do drugs and I don't drink I think alcohol is stupid and getting drunk and spending a night next to your new best friend, the toilet is even more stupid. You can't just assume and say that all American teenagers think that drinking and getting high is cool because not ALL American teenagers think that way. I have been an American teenager that does think that drink and getting high are not cool. I am sure that there are teenagers in Europe that think drink and getting high are cool.

Also, I don't know about other people but I think that its wrong not to capitize American.Show appreciation to Americans and show appreciation to Europeans and capitalize the words in the future.
and to correct you on your statement as follows.
"I don't do any of that stuff. I think it's stupid to lose control of your body"

Buona sera!

I am American, but lived in Naples for four years. I noticed this difference.

For the alcohol, I think it holds a greater appeal to young (25 years and younger) Americans because of the forbidden nature of it. We are not allowed to drink alcohol until we are 21 so it is different from Italy where kids are allowed to have some wine along with the adults.

Americans do seem to find pleasure in doing forbidden things. it is a thrill and a rush to some of them.

The only way I can answer this is to give you a brief testomony. I was raised a Christian and always knew that drugs were bad, but once I found out how fast weed made me popular I got away from God, but in the end where were my friends nowhere to be found. Now I know the only way to have a real good time is be close to God and praise him with my true friends

Its a form of rebellion. When someone tells you not to do something, you want to do it that much more.

I wouldn't say that american teenagers think getting drunk and high is "cool", it's just part of being young.

Yeah its just the way things are, Our music is so good, I mean look at what the seventies, we are kind of opreased by the church, as well, so its kind of a way of acting out, We do pretty much what we want, we are much free er then other countries, we have more oppurtunity so we are not as up tight, England is bad too, its prob just depends on what scene your in, in the states, if its there and its available people are going to use it and abuse it,

I completely agree with what you said. When I was a teenager, I never got drunk or did drugs and even now in my twenties, I have refrained from doing so. I think that teens who do these things are misguided, immature and don't realize that there a lot of better things that they can do with there time. My answer is general of course, as there could be alot of deeper issues that lead them to drink. I think that pop-culture definitely plays a role.
