I do think there is a link between the style of music people listen to and the way they dress, and that this influences their persona and vice-versa. It's funny how you can almost always guess someone's age based partly upon the way they dress and the type of music they listen to. Most people my age, for example (I'm 42) still listen to music from the 1980's and wear clothes that are a little behind the times, as well. It's as if they stopped exploring new music, new fashion trends, and new ideas once they became adults. Likewise, teenagers are usually very heavily influenced in both their musical tastes and their dress by more current trends - like emo or hip-hop or goth.

Personally, as someone who is 42 but who listens to more current music (the Killers, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, Muse, the Mars Volta, etc...), I try to split the difference. I work I dress conservatively, but I try to avoid clothes that scream "soccer Mom." On the other hand, when I go out, I will dress a little younger according to the occasion, sometimes in a bit of a "goth" style for alternative night clubs, sometimes in just jeans and a t-shirt. Luckily I'm young enough looking to pull this off most of the time, but you probably won't catch me with a mohawk and multiple eyebrow piercings anytime soon.

at a certain age yes but when you get older is a bit harder to let music be an influence especially when your music choices become more open and that happens when you get older. look at teenagers they all look the same when they listen to the same music but is not the same for adults unless you lonely and anti social
