This poem is about making your life count. When old age comes and death is at your door what will you look back on? What did you do that made it all worth while? How will you be remembered? Will your candle quietly burn out unnoticed, or will you rage into death knowing that you did everything you set out to do and you are proud of what you accomplished ready for what death brings you. It's a challenge to take the risks that make your life meaningful. Wonderful poem! Does that help?

The poem is about dying, and how one should never just give up, give in, and die. Its about being strong, about fighting to the very end

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

read it sorta like this....

do not lie down to die
being old should be like a fire, bright and warm,
burning brighter as the darkness comes

though you know that death must come
and nothing they say can stop it form coming
still they do not welcome it or go willingly into death

Don't die quietly-be bold
Even when you're old, you should be valiant and brave at death
Be undaunted by death

Though the wise know you have to die
Because their words have not made/are impressive as lightning *
They are undaunted by death

*This is almost like, 'I'm not God, I haven't 'forked' lightning.'
Basically, this poem is telling you to accept death, but to do so gently. You must live life to the full.

Its existentialist, and not really about not giving up on life. Life is pointless and survival is hopeless, but fight nonetheless, and in doing so, your act of rebellion gives your life meaning in a meaningless world.

Do not give up on life even if you are told there is no hope. Read the whole thing, it speaks of fighting and rage against dying. The power of the will of the human spirit.

is this the one about "rage against the dying of the light"?

He means don't give up without a fight. Don't give in. Press on, etc.

It means to not go quietly....don't go without a fight. Don't face death as though it's a passive event, go into the night with swords drawn and banners blazing.
