I know that 20 percent of the beef and 50 percent of the fresh fruit and vegetables in your local store (with very few exceptions) are raised in foreign countries. Please note that those foods do NOT have to meet American standards for food safety. The only standards required are those set by the exporting country. So those grapes you just ate from Chile? They were probably fertilized with raw human sewage and irrigated with the water the upstream cities and towns used to flush their gutters and rudimentary sewage systems.

Even your federal government will tell you not to drink the water in Mexico or eat anything that isn't cooked, but it's okay to import fresh fruits, meats, and vegetables washed in that water for you to consume.

Feel safe now?
