this is a concern, especially as social services feel no need to intervene. even thought there is no physical abuse, you think they would be able to get someone involved.
i would confidentially contact another childrens organisation. eg nspcc or if its a single parent, 'gingerbread' or something. there is obviously something clearly wrong with the parenting skills at home. i mean who has a child wearing dirty clothes and not washes? does this child go to school that way? maybe anonymously send a letter or contact the school and express your concerns. if they reported this to social services or another agency, then surely social services would be more inclined to get involved. i hope to god that there is nothing else going on!! a child left in this situation could only be open to other dangers. please talk to someone, even 'NSPCC'- 0808 800 5000

Call your local Department of Social Services. Reporters remain anonymous. Workers will go out to his house and if there is anything interferring with his ability to function and develop in a healthy fashion, then DSS will step in and either warn the parents and recheck every so often, or remove the child from the home.

That is sad about the child being told santa .......'# whatever, but it happens all the time. This would be classified as a type of negligence, not abuse in most scenarios or possibly verbal abuse, which is most common in my opinion. You could try talking to the parents, but they might become very upset when you mention it. The child may not want to be clean, believe it or not, it depends on the age of the child really. Good luck

If he is in school, contact the school counselor. Keep calling social services. If he is being made fun of at school and it could be affecting his learning, they can take the report. The school nurse could check his teeth and if they are in bad shape it could be medical neglect. Also, if he does not dress appropriately for the weather. The school could keep and eye on him and make a report if needed. If he is not in school, then it will be up to family or friends to intervene.

It is called neglect and is illegal...little true story, a while ago I lived in a big city, just down the road from us lived a family who were the same, nobody said or did anything, one night their youngest died and the older three were hospitalised, everybody was ashamed, live and learn.

Call the police and have them take care of it - the poor child doesnt know any better and that is unfair to them if you do nothing because he could be gone any day ya know?!? better safe than sorry

I would try Social Services again. If they still refuse to help, go and see your local Councillor. They might be able to get something moving.

Ring Social Services again. Ring the NSPCC then ring them again!

Your concerns must be noted and if its investigated and nothing is found, then you will probably sleep better and I wont read about it in the paper!

Keep at it!

there is unfortunaly nothing you can do, if the child isn't being hit or anything then this child like many others just gets forgotten about, if it was me i would just make sure that the child is not in any danger.
