its from the out flow of the Mississippi river, go east a few miles right past the Mississippi and it is clear blue water, i live in port Arthur Texas near the lousisana border and the water is a turd brown, the currents of the gulf of mexico carry all the silt and dirt from the mississippi all the way down the coast till mexico, i remember reading about it in fish and game magazine and also i have been to the other side of the river, nice white sand

I think it's mainly because a couple of rivers empty into the gulf of mexico near Galveston. I don't think there's any way that it can be cleaned up because it's just silt from the rivers than makes the water look dirty.

well i am a Houstonian and Galveston has always been that way as long as I can remember, but it wasn,t always that bad...We have lots and lots of people that goes there and they throw trash all over the place, and the people has been a big part of it all...There is nice places there that you can fish and crab, but its salt water and it is dirty...i know of no plans whatsoever to clean up galveston..we have so many hurricanes and storms and it just keeps messing up the water more and more...They have Crystal beach there and it is a lot cleaner than the rest of galveston..galveston is used a lot for their nice resturants, and clothing places and Picnic and camping out.....

ecosciences are now advancing on perceptions that this crap is all there is to slow down the earths problems, we are people who thrive on clean water ways and that isn't how the earth really is if we didn't meddle with it, real time studies are in effect all the time doing studies to understand we made this mess and what is it and where is the dollars going to come from and then they will be the keeper of another negative expenditure
