most so call country music artist are nowhere near country music. what is going on? where are all true country artist gone? country music today sucks. gone are all the good country singers like Waylon. Gary stewart, jones. etc

I agree!! All they sing about (when I tune in) is beer and tractors, and white t-shirts. The old country is okay, but I feel that now-a-days, country is stupid!!!! Just listen to those oldies country stations, they have the better music!!!!!!!!!!

Amen! I think when it changed was the day Reba came on stage half naked. Country Music producers, etc. said earlier in the news that they were going to "glitz" up country and go Hollywood. They did just that and have totally ruined it!
The newcomers are being recorded in assembly line fashion and all the female singers are trying to look like Shania. None of them have any individuality! Years ago there was the "big hair" but all the ladies had their own singing styles, etc.... same with the men.
Nashville has never accepted Dwight Yoakum either. Aside from the electric guitar, you can't get more country than that! That's because he wouldn't play their little game and let them mold him into looking,singing, dressing and acting like they wanted...a clone.
Waylon, Stewart, Jones, etc. were the greats of their time.

excellent question!!! My son still only listens to country music, and can't believe that I don't consider it country. True country music is as much about the person performing as the songs they sing. Real country music died some time ago. There are very few country artist still living, but hey George Jones is alive and doing well, and ole' Willie is going strong, did you see the footage of his last bust? He is 73 and was running like a teenager!!! I love the old country twang, those songs meant something, but times change, sadly so has the music. coyoye, you said it all!!! thanks. By the way, there will NEVER be anyone to compare to Patsy Cline or Dottie West...the list just goes on!

Stop smokin' that Loco Weed, it's making you iggernunt. Many of the older artists have gone on to that Great Honky Tonk in the sky, some have retired, some are in rehab, some are in jail. The ones who are still working are creating something fresh & new, but it is for the most part undeniably country. I don't care for the rockers who are posing as country artists, but most of them are doing just fine from where I'm sitting.

Ugh. I know! I like rock - but I love country western music! I guess the musicians are just doing the best they can to stay successful . . .
Everything is about cheap thrills nowadays so I guess songs with substance don't capture the attention of people.
Country will probably see its end soon. It'll become Pop Country.
Basic pop/hip hop song: . . . I'll just slap yo' ho' and get it down in the backa my Benz . . . invite all yo' friends . . . you has a fine *bleep*, and so's yo' sister's . . . and her friendssss . . .

Try Texas country like kevin fowler, randy rogers band, cross canadian ragweed, aaron watson, deryl dodd, jason boland, cooder graw, etc.....if they're not country, I don't know what is.
