Am 15 weeks pregnant and fairly new to town. Saw one doctor and I wasn't comfortable with his appoach to prenatal. So I went to a different clinc and saw a doctor that was ok... Tried another doctor today and he thought that I was trying to get time off of work and that it looked strange that I was doctor jumping while pregnant because I didn't get my whole file transfered, just the test results. I am so discouraged and think I'll settle for the 'ok' doctor, I mean at least he wasn't 'a bad doctor' right? I am 15 weeks and tired of this, especially after what the doctor today said to me... I want the search done

Birth is one of the events in your life that you will remember forever. You want the people around you at that time to be supportive, helpful, respectful, and loving. You want people there you can trust in case something goes wrong.

As someone who works in the birth world, my advice to you would be to stay with the doctor you saw today or the OK doctor just so you have someone to care for you while you search for someone else. To start the search, you might want to go on hospital tours of the labor and delivery units at the local hospitals. When you find the hospital you like, then work on finding a doctor, or even better, a midwife who delivers there. The hospital is important, because you want to be in a place that makes you feel comfortable, not anxious. You want to ask what their c-section rate is, their epidural rate, do they have one nurse to each patient.

If you stay with the OK doctor for delivery, you might want to find a doula to work with so you have someone during labor and the birth who is there just to take care of you. The doctors and nurses are always in and out of the rooms because of other patients, paperwork, etc.

And finally, remember there is no cut-off in your pregnancy to change doctors. You can change months before your due date, the week before, or even while you're pushing your baby out. The doctor is working for YOU, not the other way around. You are the one paying his/her paycheck. You are the boss of your birthing experience.

I settled for an OK doctor with my last baby. I almost died. She didn't worry when my blood pressure went up and finally decided to take my baby when it was 158/123. I had to be on numerous meds to control it while in labor. Needless to say I wouldn't settle. No way, no how. You do know you can request to meet with the doctor just to talk before actually becoming a patient. Then you don't have to transfer anything. A GOOD doctor will be fine with that. Good luck

You should be completely comfortable with your doctor. This is a relationship that you will have for the next nine months and you will begin to resent that you didn't look for the excellence that you baby deserves. If you are tired of looking, try one more after asking a few others who they would choose. Good luck!

i would tell the doctor you saw today to stick a sock up his ***, then I would continue looking until you find a doctor that you are completely comfortable with. You can always ask around for recommendations from people you know at work. Thats a good way to find a good doctor.

I wouldn't settle for an okay doctor, it will possible make you unhappy about going to the doctor's during pregnancy and you might not feel comfortable during delivery. Try out a couple more doctors and try to find one that is great.

I settled for an ok doctor-now I wish I didnt-my baby is due in Jan so it's too late for me to change now..but I really wish I looked into a different one in the beginning.
I really have no clue what is going on with him. when Im scheduled for tests, I never know about it until I step into the office.
he doesnt go over test results with me, unless I ask--and even then the answer is just 'it's good' or 'ok'

I think that you need to find a doctor or midwife that you are comfortable with and has a lot of experience delivery baby's. Talk to some friends or family and see if they can recommend someone. You have to remember that this person is probably going to help you throughout your pregnancy.

As long as you think the doctor is sober, intelligent and has a good bedside manner you are probably okay. If you were having complications then it would be a much more serious matter. Why don't you check doctor's history for malpractice?

Try to keep searching. You need to be comfortable with your Doctor. My advice is to go to a mommy and me group or somewhere else where there are lots of new moms and ask for referrals.
