I was looking at apts on line and the complex mentioned bond units, what are these bond units for apt complexs

I noticed that the bond units go for alot cheaper then the rent, but I don't know what they are. These are related to 55+ rentals I guess, but don't know what they are.

Perhaps these are units that require a higher deposit?
Maybe they are pegged for low income families?

Other than that, I have no idea.
