The most elegant is one that you will have to explain and make sure you have a good reason for choosing it. I am hispanic and live in a mainly hispanic city so people wonder why my little girl is named Ameerah. I was in Iraq for a year and conce ived while home on leave. It is not actually a name but how you say the word "princess" in arabic. Common names are boring, so if you want something elegant look for girly describing words in other languages. It makes it interesting when you tell people her name and they always will express interest in what it means and why you chose that. And don't copy mine either!!

I think Katharine (or Katherine) is very elegant and timeless. It's not faddish, but it's not outdated, either. Strong, but still feminine. A name of queens and saints, Shakespearean heroines and literary characters. It's a name that has no limits.

Plus, you can use lots of nicknames with it, if you're so inclined. It's the perfect name for a baby, child, teen, and adult. You can have a Katie, a Kat, a Kate, etc. Works for all ages.

I'm biased, though; my baby is Katherine Bridget, but you wanted our opinions, right ;-).

When I think of elegant, I think of Princess Diana. I also think Diana is a very pretty name. Everyone has their own opinion, but Princess Diana held her head up high and was always considered elegant through her life.

I think the strong, traditional, multi-syllable femine names are the most elegant sounding: Josephine, Elisabeth, Catherine, Eleanor. If you combine them with a short, single syllable femine name I think they are absolutely beautiful: Rose, Lynn, Jane, Mae.
