Severe sprains can hurt as much, and sometimes more, than actual fractures. It sounds like you may not have rehab'd it enough or improperly. Doing a number of exercises, such as standing up and down on your toes can help to strengthen the joint, though it's also possible that you received a fracture that did not show up on the initial x-rays. It's worth considering to have it examined again.

Yeah, I wasn't even in an accident, I was just walking down the road and twisted my ankle. I tore all three major ligaments on the outside of my right ankle and it swelled up and turned blue for about a month. After only a couple of days I went to the doctor because the pain was too much and the color really bothered me. I basically iced it, took anti inflammatory medicine like strong ibuprofen, wore a brace during the day (the big plastic knee high boot) and after a month and a half or so went to physical therapy where the therapist made me do excercises to strengthen the muscles, and massaged the wound where internal scar tissue could accumulate and prevent proper healing. Unfortunately with a bad sprain, it never heals as strong as it was before, unlike a broken bone. Good luck and happy new year.

Are you sure it was an ankle sprain. I mean that sounds like a long time for you to be having that much trouble with. Well first I would see a doctor again and have them take another look at it. If it is an ankle sprain then I would keep it wrapped and iced and I would stay of it. Not much else you can do for a sprain. Good luck and sorry about your accident.

I've had my ligaments snap and it sounded like a gun went off. I was a gymnast and I fell from about 6 feet in the air onto the side of my right ankle. I have no idea how I made it home that night but I was forced to drive my car home and I have a stick shift. Needless to say, I didn't move it again after that. It swelled up and turned all kinds of nasty colors. I had to stay off of it for about a month but after that, I found that I was still having problems pointing my toe. Every time I would try to point my toe, it would hurt really bad. Well one day after that I was walking and accidentally stepped off of a porch the wrong way and rolled my ankle again. This was what fixed it because after that, I never had another problem with the ankle. My guess is that something healed wrong or was pinched but when I rolled it again, the problem was solved. I never saw a doctor except to get the xrays but there has to be a reason why it got fixed from hurting it again.

Oh yes, I had a very severe, extremely painful sprained ankle and partly torn achilles tendon. I stepped out of my mom's minivan and straight into a pothole. I was in a half cast, a whole cast, and different ankle braces and boots not to mention that for 3 months I was confined to zero weight bearing and a wheelchair. That happened in january and it's been almost a year. I was out of work til april. I still feel pain every so often when I try to run or jump or walk for a really long time (like all day).My best advice is don't in any way push yourself. Let it heal as slowly as it wants too. Trust me. I almost broke my ankle trying to stand up for the first time too soon. It sucks, but pain killers will be your best friend and make sure you keep it up as much as possible. Good luck!

I had a very severe ankle sprain when I was 14 and it gave me trouble for almost two years. It took even longer (like almost 10 years) to get the range of motion 100% back, even after it stopped hurting. Ankle sprains are incredibly slow-healing.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I had a severe sprain a few years ago and it took a few months to completely heal. Have you seen a doctor about it? Maybe it's more than a sprain. If it hasn't felt any better in all this time, I would recommend seeing a doctor...

You have my sympathy. I was in the same situation. Not much you can do...keep it wrapped tight, don't put too much pressure on it. My ankle, to this day, still gives me issues. I was the driver in a terrible car accident. I had a broken hip and sprained ankle. My body is definitely not the same. But yours will heal-give yourself plenty of time and vitamins. :)

I had a sprain so bad once the doctors kept exclaiming how they were surprised I hadn't broken my ankle. I had it tightly wrapped for a month. After a month had passed, it still hurt, and it felt like it needed to be popped. This went on for a week until I finally gritted my teeth, bit my hand, and popped my ankle. It made me cry, but it felt soooooooo much better afterward. It was like magic. If it feels like it needs popped, it probably does.
