Obviously, Jesus (Who IS Wisdom), would be the wisest man; but since He was not COMPLETELY man, I'll go with Solomon, the 3rd King of Israel.

According to 1 Kings 3, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked him what he wanted most from Him. Solomon humbly answered, "... an understanding heart, to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad..."
Solomon's request so pleased God, that He said, "Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee." Plus, He gave him riches and honour besides.

According to 1 Kings 4, "God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men;... and his fame was in all nations round about. And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five... And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom."

Who can argue with the author of the Book of Proverbs, whose wisdom we still seek today?

We will never know who was(or is) the Wisest man in the world.
Why? Because part of being Wise is Humility. This state of"Humbleness" would prevent the person from bragging about their Wisdom. They would much rather stay in the background and let other people take the spotlight.

I'm going to go with King Solomon from the Bible....mainly because he figured out that he didn't know everything and actually prayed for more knowledge from God. This may be a little bit corny, but it's the timeless answer.

I think each generation (time group, decade, century) probably has a smartest man or woman...it just depends. And each person's smartness is hard to compare to another's...like Michaelangelo, DaVinci, Einstein, or Bill Gates.
