We are so busy giving gifts and having fun, we tend to forget what is the meaning of Christmas. Maybe we should add little more religious taste to it! What do you think?

Completely. Christmas and Santa has became a commercial as you mentioned. It is something like the Valentines day. They try to find ways to make money from the people that are following the fashion. Jesus never told as to celebrate his birthday. The reason why we celebrate Christmas is because before Jesus came in that period of time(25/12) people where celebrating the god of "Sun" and people didn't like the idea of removing it so they just changed it and said that instead of the god of sun we will celebrate Jesus birth. Then some companies used it to make money. Its maybe not wrong to celebrate Christmas but we do it with the wrong way. Christmas should be a period of time that the family gets together.

I think Christmas, the whole thing is for the economy. It's the way we raise our children, making them believe in Santa Claus and how easy he gets around, and then therefore they think getting presents for them must not be hard for you, the working parent and if you don't get what they want, it's annoying. Religion, I'm agnostic, so I can't say anything for it, but movies like It's a Wonderful Life certainly brings religious and an appreciation for those who work so hard for you. I think the meaning of Christmas is to have fun and realize the love for everybody around you and therefore creating a real peace on earth.

Christmas is indeed far too commercialised. One sign of that is the changing of the colour of Santa Clause's coat from green to red due to a Coca-Cola advert.

That just goes to show you how eager companies are to sell sell sell in time for christmas.

In terms of the religious part; people should have the freedom to worship what they wish and those that wish to make Christmas more religious have every right to. But don't come knocking at my door singing hymns. I intend for my christmas to stay traditional and religion free.

:)

But religion is a personal thing, so start off at a personal level.

Next year, instead of giving gifts to people who most likely have the money to buy whatever it is you are giving them, donate the money you would have spent on gifts to a charity. Tell your friends that you are not accepting gifts, and that they shouldnt give you any, your friendship and love cant be bought.

Christmas is only about money and gifts if you let it be that way.

People are spoiled these days. I mean, I'm a teenager and I think I'm the only kid who really knows what Christmas is about. Sure, it is nice getting presents, but it is not what Christmas is truly about. Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ and giving to others.

It is too commercial. Whether you add religion to it or recognize it as a time to appreciate your family, it would be better than just spending cash.
