If you did break your toe, there isn't much to do in regards to healing. You won't get a cast or splint, x-rays are a waste of time and money. Most good doctors won't put you through the process, unless they want a little extra cash in thier pockets. The best form of treatment includes, rest, ice, elevation and buddy tape. The rest, ice and elevating your foot helps with the pain and swelling. Buddy tape is using regular tape and taping the injured toe to the one next to it. Its a form of splinting. Advil or tylenol are good for minor pain relief, but you may need something stronger like vicodin to help get through the stronger pains. Hope this helps.

Bruising is a good indicator that it may be broken. Unfortunately there really isn't alot that can be done for it. I suggest ice to stop the bruising and help bring down the swelling, then tape it to the one next to it (that's probably what the doctor is going to do). Then you may want to take an antiinflamitory such as Motrin if you aren't allergic, but ask your doctor first. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you have broken it for sure. You may have torn something as well so you are smart to be seeing
a doctor. If it is broken I don't think there is much the
doctor can do. You'll just have to tough it out. Sorry.
Perhaps wrap it and put you on crutches until it heals.
I broke my little toe..I accidentally kicked the vacuum
cleaner. I cursed my head off, and walked funny for a while. Good luck. Sorry about your injury.

It sounds like it would be a broken toe. All of the symptoms you describe are what I had recently when I broke a bone in my foot. Do the best to stay completely off it until they take x-rays and find out what is going on just in case.

I broke my middle toe before. It hurts like hell. The only way you'll know if you broke it is from an x-ray.
There isn't much they can do for it. Mine was actually bent weird so they numbed it up and popped it back into place. Then they taped it to the toe next to it and that was it. After about 6 weeks I was back to normal.

rntrouble the er nurse a few spaces above me just gave you the best advice. I'm an EMT and I'd be quite amused if you called me for a broken toe. I'd tell you exactly what the nurse just said and ask you if you wanted me to take you to hear it from him/her in person. Tape it, raise it, ice it. Motrin. Not Tylenol. Motrin.

Tape it to the toe next to it untill it is completely healed. Dont bother with x rays, they wont do anything for it, save yourself the trip and money. Ice it and stay off as much as you can.
