Ok so my younger cousin just suffered a computer virus and he lost all of his music. His songs are still on his iPod but they're no longer on his computer. SO if he plugs his iPod into his computer, iTunes will update it and erase all of his other songs.
He only had 300 songs on his iPod but is there any way to keep those songs on his iPod without having to re-download them? Please? thanks!

The next time that he connects his iPod, before it has a chance to update, he should change the settings so that he manually manages his music. The option will come up when he connects it.

If you connect his iPod to another computer, you should be able to change the settings, so that you update the iPod manually. That way, he will be able to add new songs, though iTunes won't let him copy the music back to the computer. Also, there are programs which will allow you to copy the music off the iPod to a computer. Do this on another computer, then copy the music accross.

Otherwise you'll just have to connect it and click the x quickly.

no,their is no way to keep those songs because as you said iTunes automaticlly updates the ipod which means that the ipod will be erase. If he bought some of those songs from iTunes he might be able to redownload them for free if he contacts them and tells them his problem because they keep a record of the songs you download.

it depends which version of itunes he has, because the earlier versions WILL delete the songs but the new one will not, if you have an ipod try yours first though just to make sure they wont all be deleted, also you can buy a program to get the songs off your ipod

yup..i got it..

before you do anything..

plug your ipod in..and quickly click the small "x" button on the top center of your itunes..becuase it will say "updating ipod" and you dont want that...

so after u do that...go to your ipod tab..then choose the box that allows you to manually manage your music...

that way it wont delete them..you could just continue adding songs...GOOD LUCK!!

I dont think iTunes will delete songs off the iPod simply because they no longer are on the hard drive.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe uninstall the version you have and put on version 7.

First thing is to create a folder and transfer all his songs from his iPod then he can copy all his songs to his iTunes.

He may want to put his songs in a folder in the future.

in simple terms receive your cd to ITunes and the music will immediately pass into your library. Sync your Ipod and the songs that are checked could pass on there once you do. in addition they have video clips that should assist you on Itunes.

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I went to the ipod help web page, try a google search, and they told me what to do. Unfortunately, I deleted the email they sent to me.
