If a woman's menstrual cramps are too severe to be managed by these strategies, her doctor might prescribe low dose oral contraceptives containing estrogen and progestin or long-acting edroxyprogesterone. This type of approach can prevent ovulation (the monthly release of an egg) and reduce the production of prostaglandins which, in turn, reduces the severity of cramping and causes a light menstrual flow.

To prevent cramps:

Get plenty of sleep. Your body may be more vulnerable to pain if you are tired.

Exercise regularly. This can stimulate blood flow and ease menstrual pain.

Include whole grains and green leafy vegetables in your diet.
Drink plenty of fluids.

Avoid smoking cigarettes and excessive alcohol use.

Oh, I've always had that problem. In fact I'm on it right now! It's perfectly normal, especially as an adolescent. Whenever I have bad periods I have to miss school. Your obgyn can prescribe you a form of birth control that can limit your periods. I myself am in the process of taking Ortho tri-cyclen lo. There are shots that you can recieve every three months and you won't even have your period! The only problem is getting to a doctor.

They're fantastic if you're sexually active, as well, but I'm assuming you are not. In the meantime medicines like Aleve and Excedrin or Midol can relieve your pain. Heating pads and warm baths work well too. Hehe, there was a time for me when I would lie in the fetal position for hours! But now, I'm progressively getting better and you will too. You just have to find the proper method.

2 tylenol always works for me...give it about a half hour to kick in. I didn't find Midol helpful at all...sometimes it's worse than others but usually i can count on tylenol...the 500 mg kind. just make sure to EAT something substantial, at leat oatmeal or cereal or something, before you take any medication (even if you're not hungry!) otherwise you will feel worse. you can also try heat packs on your stomach, or laying flat in a cool place.(helps when you feel dizzy..sometimes even the floor). if the pains persist or get worse you might want to talk with your doctor. feel better soon!~

i get that too sometimes, but what really helps is boil some water and pour it into an emty water bottle, and hold it against your stomach. It might to too hot at first to just wait till it cools down a little. Another way is use a hot/cold pack the ones that you can put in the fridge, and microwave and hold that against your stomach too. The best way is to just keep your stomach area really warm, and if that still doesn't work ask your doctor for pills.

Take Midol, or Advil. Anything with a pain reliever will pretty much work. If that still just barely takes the edge off, then go to your doctor, you may need something stronger.

You should make an appointment with your gynecologist and get a pap smear and pelvic exam done. I was having that same problem. Your doctor can put you on birth control, which can lessen the pain or prescription pain meds(mine put me on Tramadol). Good luck!

See your doctor. He/She can recommend something to help you with your cramps. For me, Alleve or Midol, peppermint tea, and a heating pad help, however my best friend had to go to the doctor for hers. So my advice would be to speak to your Ob/Gyn

Definately talk to your doctor, many women find that birth control can help alleviate cramps, but talk to your doc.
