Photoshop Elements is a good home-version of Photoshop. Most of the features, very little of the price.

Student discounts are always lovely, too.

no longer something will tournament photoshop. Photoshop has many upload-ons which make it fairly useful like noise nija. Photoshop CS3 is popping out and could be much greater useful than CS2.
