I'm looking at buying this Westinghouse 42" 1080p monitor (Model # LVM-42w2). I've noticed there is no TV-tuner, which i am assuming is needed to watch regular tv. I have DirecTV satellite....what would i need to get to make watching my satellite on this tv possible. The reason i am getting this monitor, even though there isn't the ability to watch tv, is because of my PS3 and the new Blue Ray technology. I want to use the maximum ability this wallet robber has in it. Thank you.

Upgrade your lease to a DirecTV HD receiver. This costs $99. You can get them at BestBuy or call up DirecTV and they'll ship one out to you plus S&H but they'll send a tech out to install it for you, although it's not hard to do at all. There's also an HD PVR you can get which is a one time charge of $299. The Tivo service for the PVR also incurs a $6/mo charge. The HD base channel package is an additional $10/mo.

It would also be recommended that you upgrade your dish to one that picks up the new satellites for more HD programming. If you already have the triple LNB dish, this is probably enough. A newer dish is required for your local channels in HD, or you can use a TV antenna instead.

Also a quick note on leasing receivers....
If you have been with DirecTV a long time, you know that in the past you purchased all the equipment you need. Since March 2006, DirecTV has stopped doing this. Now you lease a receiver for free, and you can upgrade that lease for a one time fee for premium receivers such as the PVR, the HD receiver and the HD PVR. The lease fee is equal to the amount of the old additional receiver fee and replaces that so you really don't pay anything different. The only thing different is now if you cancel service, you have to give them the box back. You can't go and sell it to recoup your lease upgrade fee.

the difficulty with action picture satellites vs. authentic satellites is that interior the authentic worldwide, you may want to be on the factor of the earth to get any variety of excellent selection with a digital camera. And in case you're on the factor of the earth, the orbital era is ninety minutes, so which you never have any area of earth in view for countless minutes. additionally, the orbit is fastened. in the adventure that your contemporary orbit takes you over, say, Kansas ideal now, then you definately are actually not likely to make certain Florida till the earth rotates below you so as that Florida is under you basically once you attain that factor interior the orbit. that would take many orbits, a era of days, to anticipate issues to line up. And while they do, you will basically get a jiffy to observe as you zoom previous at orbital velocity.

First of all, I got one of these sets a couple of months ago and it rocks!

You have DirectTV so you should have everything you need the tuner is in the box and set should be the same for this monitor. It has all the connections you imagine. I would either connect it via HDMI or Component HI Def cables.

Have a blast.
