The first and foremost - go to dance classes. This is the most efficient way to learn. You can find inexpensive classes at your local community college or at a dance studio near you.
You can use this website http://www.ballroomdancers.com to locate a studio near you. Also, go to http://usabda.com for more information about where to find a studio, which studio is good in your area, also, where can you practice your new skill at social dancing.

Many people say they learm from instructional videos. It is another good resource. However, classes are better than videos especially when you starting out because in classes you will be helped if the teacher sees that you are having difficulties. Search for dance videos on http://www.dancevision.com or http://dancesport.uk.com What they carry is quality stuff. You can also try to find the same videos on Amazon, but don't go to Amazon seraching for vidoes directly - many of them are of questionable quality, despite the reviews.

Last but not least - practice, practice, practice. You need to dance at least 2-3 times a week in order to learn and not forget.

A lot of the answers pretty much already told you what you should do is go take dance classes, but I know that you can feel kind of uncomfortable with lots of people so try to get a one-on-one class it may be a little more expensive but it's also worth it!! Other than that just try to remember that in salsa keep an 8 count. Salsa is actually one of the easiest dances to learn (footwork atleast).
Here try this if you're standing put your feet together, then with your right foot step forward, put all your weight on your right foot then step in place with your left foot. Putting all your weight now on your left foot. Then bring your right foot back and put it back to the original way you were standing with your feet side by side. Thats your first 4 counts. It only sounds complicated in words if you see it it'll be easier so try to get a dance teacher. Hope you take my advice. Another thing remember salsa and tango has a sexual side that you want to keep in mind when dancing with someone. If you're interested in more of my info contact me!!

Take lessons at a local studio.
You can often rent a video at a well stocked library, however, the lessons are more fun, and you are more likely to pick up the right methods at a dance studio.

Do it, it will be fun.
There will likely be more females in the class than males, so you'll likely always have a partner of the opposite sex.

You'll have fun, your dance partners will have fun, Just Do It !
