Leopard geckos are the cheapest and easiest to keep. Iguanas and chameleons are probably the most expensive and time consuming. If you are a beginner you should go with the geckos

That depends on how much money, time, patience you have. The cheapest reptiles are nocturnal ones; such as geckos. Because they do not need the $40 UVB bulb. The Bearded dragons are easier tamed then geckos; but more expensive. Skinks are easier maitenence; but are a little on the harder to tame side. An Iguana or chameleon is NOT a good idea for a beginner; they are extreamly high maitenance; and expensive to keep. They take a lot of time.
So; try that site that was mentioned earlier; Kingsnake.com. Learn about the tamability; life span, size, housing, and personalities of some lizards; and decide for yourself; because not everyone likes or preffers the same lizard. Look up pictures and see which ones you like the look of. Then check out local pet stores; price the lizard, habitat, substrate, lighting, heat, etc. And find out what is in your price range.

Good luck!

Remember; nobody can decide what pet you want except yourself; research and see which one you fall in love with! You can even go to a pet store and watch how they climb, move, etc.

The best starter Lizard is a Leopard gecko they are easy to take care of they don't require a lot of maintenance or attention and they are easy to handle. They can eat mealworms, waxworms and crickets and they don't require a large tank. Most of the time they are pretty friendly but not all geckos are like this avoid tokay geckos they are blue and white usually and they are pretty cheap. They are verey aggressive and I have heard their bite is really painful which is strange because most geckos are not like this. Another option is a bearded dragon they are a little more difficult an eat the same things but they are pretty friendly but more expensive. One other good choice would be a water dragon preferably an asian water dragon. They are a green almost Iguana looking reptile and they can be really friendly. I have two myself but they will eventually require a large enclosure but they are less expensive than bearded dragons but are a little tougher to care for. If you get any of these lizards that have a good personality you should be very happy with them. Good Luck.

I personally suggest a gecko or bearded dragon.

I would stick with a mali uromastyx or a leopard gecko.
Bearded Dragons are FABULOUS pets, but they eat crickets, which are a whole ordeal on their own (not only do they need a place to live, they need to be fed gut-load and be dusted in vitamins, plus they smell so nasty).
Uros mainly eat vegtables and some fruit.
Leopard geckos can eat crickets, but they can also be substained on VITAMIN DUSTED meal worms, which are tiny, don't smell bad, and can be kept out of sight in your fridge.

a beaded dragon !!! my son has one for 3 yrs and is so tame it never bit him, never any trouble at all ,and FANTASTIC pet ! we also have a green iguana..... wow, now that's a handful ! never would i recommend and iguana to anyone under the age of 20. it takes a lot patience. the beaded dragon , with all its "needs"(lights, sand , enclosure and crickets ) will run you about $ 150.00. a iguana grows real quick and needs more lights and a larger enclosure every 3 to 4 months until at least the age of 5.

If you've never had one start with an Anole. They are smaller, cute ,and easily tamed. Larger ones such as Iguana's are very difficult to keep healthy and better for the experienced handler.
