Either is good. Obviously private lessons are costly, and you should add on a decent tip for the instructor as well. Believe it or not, most resorts don't pay their instructors a whole lot more for private lessons, 80% of that extra money goes into the pocket of the resort.
Pros of private: 1 instructor, 2 students, lots of face time, few distractions.
Cons: the boys will miss out on the experience of watching and learning from others new to the sport, and being able to sympathize with failures of others as well. Also, no chance at meeting ski buddies. Maybe the 9 year old is young, but if you will be frequenting the resort, the 12 year old would probably enjoy meeting some friends of the same age and ability.

Of course private lessons are more expensive but their better. You can do a 90 minute lesson going over basics your child might already know and learn nothing but you can go an hour of individual they can teach you exactly what you need to know.

private are better for quick learning
as the person gets 100 % attention
but i always went with group lessons as there alot cheaper and you get tooo go through learning with people in the same boat as you
and you made loads of new friends that are into the sport soo have people to go riding with
i just thought it was more relaxed and entertaining seeing people fall as well as your self

group lessons. To watch others learn and how others move to perform well on snow is a great lesson in itself. Sometimes to see what NOT to do is as important as to be told what to do.

Definately go with group...They will make friends, and the best way to learn is through practice, they can figure out the do's and don'ts on their own.

If you are an outgoing person, go with group. If you are more reserved, private is a good choice.
