There are many factors involved here...such as 4, 6, or 8 cyl. emissions equipment, air conditioner and other accessories.
To replace the head gasket on my 88 F250 V-8 truck takes about 12 hrs because the whole top of the engine has to be cleared of emissions and fuel injection systems, and other components. Remove the head, clean, install the gaskets and reassemble.
on the other hand some 4 cyl engines can remove and replace in a couple of hours.
A good mechanic can generally beat the flat rate...so can a poor one but be careful of him.

depends on the car. usually with a knowledgable mechanic, should be around 4-5 hours if not less, or could be more. but that is just a typical estimate.

Not very long once they get all the needed parts in. Never rush a good mechanic. If you want it bad, that's how you'll get it. You're looking at maybe 4 hours once everything is in place.

same 2-4 hrs for an easy one, it all depends on the car
just ask the mechanic how long when you drop it off
he will give you a time frame

on average a typical shop once they start on it will take 4 to 5 hours. with cleaning the surfaces putting the new one on and they will generally let it dry for just alittle bit and check it.

If he takes it to a repair shop, they also have other cars to work on as well, so it could take a couple of days... and that is if they have the parts in stock.
