I have a Russian Tortoise which I love very much. My mom thinks I am a little crazy because I am always talking and carrying him, but I really feel that he actually like the attention. Do you think he can see me or am I some type of blur or shadow to him? I feel like he can see me or knows who I am, cause every time I walk pass his cage(tank) he picks his head up real high like if he is giving me the signal to pick him up, so I do. I would really like to know what he could see, so if you have any info please share it?

Tortoises see pretty well- black and white, reds, oranges... with eyesight about as good as a humans.

What do they think we are is another question. There is NO doubt that turtles can easily learn to identify us as food providers- but they also have deep instincts that make them treat us as threats when we do things like pick them up by the shell (like an eagle would), hold them without supporting the belly and feet (they know they should be falling), etc. They also do not generally like large moving animals that can step on them easily.

Does it like the attention? It certainly likes the body heat, and being cuddled is like being in a snug, warm, hiding place.

As a rule of thumb...
- Handle it very little compared to how you would handle a dog, etc.
- Always make sure it can leave if it wants, like you would a cat.
- Remember, this is not something that actually wants to be cuddled- it just wants to be warm.
- Be safe, wash your hands afterwards.

Yes your tortoise can see you and will probably like the attention because they are in a cage for most of the day.

Turtles and tortoises have pretty fair vision so yes, he can see you. He can also feel vibrations in the ground as you walk and can hear you too.
