I have Norton Internet Security, and if i turn the firewall on then the next day, when i turn my pc on the wireless does not start up until 10mins later. With the firewall off, on startup the wireless sets up instantly! i have configures the firewall to allow the network connection but it has not solved the problem, i have even contacted Norton they were unable to solve the problem either and my wireless providers cannot solve it either! I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with a Network card and a Belkin Adsl modem with built in router. I am using windows xp, can anyone help?

I have heard of this before. One of the solutions is to get rid of Norton firewall and use another one. WinXP has a firewall, or you can get Zonealarm. Your router should have a firewall on it, too.

If you decide to get rid of the Norton firewall, make sure you configure it to be disabled before you uninstall it. Otherwise, it tends to hang on to blocking your wireless even after you uninstall it.

Why don't you get rid of Norton and try good, free and recommended security programs. I used to use Norton and have noticed the difference in my computer's performance overall, it's a lot faster for instance.

For good, free and recommended security programs, please go here

I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust's 12 month free trial is excellent (I'm using it and am extremely impressed).
If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.

If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.

Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection and check for any updates when you first download them.

This is why I don't like Norton stuff. Some people love it, not I though. You need to tell it to always allow the connection through the port you are accessing more than likely.
