In the old days people got along fine without all this new technology! high definition TV and picture phones! Phones were made for making calls not taking pictures or playing games. Kids went to play outside instead of playing video games.

Of course, in the older days, people didn't have phones, and wrote letters.

In the even older days, they couldn't write, so they talked to people.

In the even older old day, they lived in caves.

In the really really old day, they lived in primeval swamps and probably didn't even talk.

Shall I stop now?

There exists groups, such as the Amish, who follow the "tried & true." A good book, published in the 1970's was "Future Shock." It discussed how the rapid growth of technology was going to effect society. Some groups would be at the forefront of using it, some would gradually adapt to it, while others would resist it. The challenge would be how society would control it since advances would increase at a tremendous rate. You can see how this is working; how some have to be the first to have it whether you can function with it or not (i.e. personal computers, cell phones, Ipods, etc.). In how you control it, look at the advances in health care, along with the tremendous costs.
The question is not whether technology is necessarily good or bad, but what is the true value or worth and where to apply it with limited resources. For example, with medical expenses, "Spare no expense when it's for my family" vs. "I don't want to pay taxes for others or I can't afford the costs." Do we put a man on the moon or feed all the people in the world?
