I go to SUNY Albany. The average GPA is a 3.26. You should be able to rate your own GPA against this one, and weigh your odds at getting in. Remember, other factors are taken into account as well, such as extracurriculars. The mid range of SATs for SUNY Albany is 1130-1250. My own stats were higher than that and I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship, which landed me in honors dorms. The honors dorms are in really good shape, well lit and cleaned. The other dorms, especially Freshman dorms, are fairly dingy but not the worst I've seen. The campus is smaller than you'd expect for having so many students, and you can walk from one side of classes to the other side in less than 10 minutes.
The academics aren't the best. They are reknowned in the country for certain programs: atmospheric science, criminal justice, public policy, social welfare, business. It depends what you're interested in. Overall, this school is what you make of it. It's a good price, with a very large New York City and Long Island population. There are a lot of resources though, that you should take advantage of if you decide to attend.
Also, the teachers, if you look on the SUNY Albany website also, are some of the best in the nation and come from very well known academic institutes, since this is a research school.
Some down sides? Poor academic advisement, poor gym facilities, fairly easy to get a high grade in classes.

I hope this helped with your decision. Let me know if you have more questions.
