Recently when I was taking out our Christmas tree, which was a Norwegian Spruce, I accidently rubbed the stump on the carpet and got a small spot , (about the size of a softball) of stick pitch on the carpet.What is the best way to remove the stickiness from the carpet?

Pine sap is not dissolved in water or soapy water. You will need to use turpensol or turpentine. An alternative is Goo-Gone, or Desolvit (an orange oil-based spray). The Desolvit label specifies it works on pine sap.
