I just went to the doctor and had my membranes stripped. Afterwards I had a good amount of bleeding, does this mean labor is close? Anyone else had there membranes stripped? Did it bring on labor?

A friend of mine had this done more than once. I know she had it done twice, and maybe even 3 times. She said how painful it was and I didn't understand why she went through it more than once. She really wanted to go into labor and have her baby already, I guess. OUCH is all I can think of. Good luck and good health to you and your baby!

Slight bleeding is normal. Call your doctor right away or go to the emergency room if you have bright red blood, and a good amount of it. Striping the membranes shouldn't hurt if the doctor or midwife took the time to do it properly. I should be a 10 - 20 minute procedure. If stripping the membranes will trigger your labor, it will most likely do so within 48 hours. I did have this done with my baby#4 who was 10 days late. It didn't hurt, and I had stronger contractions than normal throughout the day. I went to the birth center at around midnight and was 7 centimeters dilated. Baby was born in the water a couple of hours later! So it did work for me! They wouldn't be able to strip your membranes if you weren't already a centimeter or two dilated, so they would usually only do this if they thought it would trigger labor. Good luck!

I had it done 3 times and I was still 8 days late, yeah I bleed and had some contractions after wards but it all went away. I am not to sure that is works, but I guess for some people it might. But you know the baby is coming because it is the end of your pregnancy enjoy these last moments.

usually this triggers labor, if not they might need to give you a little pitocin to get it going--

But if they have done this you cant have sex or anything--did they send you home?? You should get ready to go to hospital for sure!

They did this with my daughter and then gave me a bit of pitocin and she was born 2.5 hours later!

I was in the hospital with my first baby for 30 days before delivery due to high blood pressure. They did this to my room mate. Yes she had her baby shortly thereafter. All the best to you
