Yeah,why not..♥

Couple things here:

1. You used the wrong word in your question. It's "allowed", not "aloud".

2. YES, of course an eleven-year old should be allowed (<---spelled CORRECTLY) to surf the internet! I've been surfing the internet since I was FOUR! That's eight years right there! (do the math.)

3. ...but of course, it depends on the parent/guardian of the eleven-year old. Some put parental controls, some don't.

Well, that's really up to the parent. I believe that if an 11 year old child is responsible, then they should be allowed to have an e-mail account, and get online and such. If it were my child; however, I would supervise what the 11 year does because there are some websites that just are no good for 11 year olds. I would keep careful tabs on what my 11 year old did online. The key is to be smart and safe. Understand that not all websites are good ones, and monitor what an 11 year old does.

Yes they should be allowed. But first you should have a conversation with them and get an understanding of what is appropriate and what's not. Then as long as they are being monitored and there are blocks and protection installed and set up then why not. I have a 12, 9, and two 4 year olds and I allow them to get on the computer as long as I am there with them. Your going to have to spend time with your child...heaven forbid

I would allow and encourage it, but I would also set some parental controls in place.
In Internet Explorer, go to TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS.
Click on CONTENT.
Here you will see a list of sites with general content you want accessible - or not.
You can also specifically block sites or allow sites.
There is a lot of garbage out there that even I wouldn't want to see, so I'd rather my 11-year-old isn't bothered with it either.

i'm a grandpa, and i think 11 year olds ought to be out doing fun and exciting things with their friends not sitting inside rotting their brains with computers and t.v. (though my own grandchildren do use the computer more and better than i, when we go there to visit or they come here to visit, we do fun stuff like painting and making collages and going for walks, and making memories)
you know the lecture, i'm sure...the one that starts out "in MY day, we didn't have.....(computers, cell phones, t.v. )...we had ROCKS and we were glad...and we were poor, we couldn't afford....(tv, shoes, etc) and i had to walk 5 miles to school barefoot in the snow...and we made our own fun...and all that rot.
well, in my day we really didn't have computers and cell phones, but we weren't poor and i didn't walk 5 miles barefoot in the snow, i walked 2 miles with very adequate boots in the snow, we did have a t.v. but i didn't watch much of it because i was too busy doing fun stuff with my friends, like skiing, swimming, bicycling, hunting, camping, riding horses, and all those things kids growing up in the rocky mountains did in the 50's and 60's.
it doesn't matter where you live, you're a kid, and you're hardwired to play, and that is as it should be...be with real friends who are in the same room with you and in the same yard or park with you, (not virtual, but real), interaction in real time with real people is important not only to play, but in your development as a person, so spend less time with the computer and more time in the fresh air (with the way things are going, there won't be alot of that left before long)

well it depends on the 11 yr old. u should glance every hr or so but dont watch. i remember when my mom let me on the computer and had either her or my siblings watch me and i felt like she couldnt trust me to do the right thing. i did have aim and a myspace and kno enough that if someone acts weird or wrong leave the chat or delete them and tell an adult. i do think u should let her but just be careful.

Only with a keystroke monitor, and guard type software. Assuming that the computer isnt in a common area where the youngster and machine can be watched.

Yes, but be sure to install parental controls and a keylogging program so you know where they've been.

Also sit them down and talk to them about the dangers that are out there.

Knowledge is power.

Yes. the best thing to do before you let them on is to install a virus/ parental system. that way nothing inapropriate will pop up on the screen and to have no virusis to get into your computer. i hoped i helped ya out :-)
