Some people prefer not to have e-mail contact with people they don't know. Many Yahoo users just want to ask or answer questions and not have e-mail contact. If people are working and have families they may just not have time to do e-mail as well as YA.

Hello there! I have a former student who is from Izmir, Turkey! I loved working with her! In fact, she just came to visit me again over Christmas break!
People on ANSWERS may not choose to share their email addresses because of all the bad that sometimes goes on via email. Possibly the anonymity is due to security reasons.

Imaka is right. Persons you don't want to be in contact with may bother you. You cannot be selective if you give your e mail ad outright.
