1. a 21yr old person who is street wise, smart well balanced,a previous history of emloyment being punctual, polite enthusiastic, and educated to the required degree.

2. A 21 yr old that is unniversity educated, has no experience of work, is heavily in debt from their university fee's, and is so well educated they are lacking in conversational skills with people other than students and parents.

hi there... if i was in your position thn id have to look at the job description...

without knowing what your job requires then id say that person 1 would be more than great for a job that deals with the public on a personl or impersonal basis-sales for example, as you describe them they seem to have the skills to keep a conversation with your customer which helps with selling your products as it puts across a pleasent atmosphere and the customer will leave going "hmmm yes i liked that shop, thye have lovely peope working there, very well mannered and polite" - im being serious! they do do that, and they will recommend you to others too...

however the other person, person 2, you say they do not have very good social skills-i would not employ them if i was in sales as they would come across hostile to the customer and makes them feel uneasy.

however if it is a job that involves no team work and is just a typing job (so unimaginative i know!) but you get the idea... like an office job...then i would employ person number 2, as in the office you can get across to that person and get them to interact slowly and build them upto become a team player...also, with there degree, they wil have a good understanding of computers (we have to use them all the time at uni!!hehehe) so they will be focused on the job and want to move up as soon as possible...whether to stay in the company or branch out...so employee number 2 would be suitable for that kind of job...

with out the job description i cannot give too much of an answer appart from the advice given... think of the pros and cons of their personality and what effect it will have in your company... you never know, person number 2 may adapt to the role given and may become more conversational with the others...

keep both their numbers to hand and if one doesnt work out for any particular reason then you can always call them back up...

If you hire #1, then you'll know what you're getting. If you pay well, and treat them well, you'll probably have a long term employee who is loyal.

If you hire #2, chances are they will soon realize that the job is below their education level, and will seek other employment in an effort to move up as soon as possible.

A 21 year old cannot be fully educated anyway. Takes years to develope to one's full potential.

Why not employ an ex-con and give some one a leg up?

well i say 1, but i find it hard to believe that number 2 who needs to speak would have a prob speaking as u must speak at uni and you are in a very social environment. would be interesting to see what they did as a degree
