I was out of town last year with my inlaws and my husband was working here at home. This is going to sound dumb, because I will be a nurse soon, but I still am not sure if what happened was a miscarriage or not. I started having unbearable lower abdominal pain, and I started to bleed very heavily. I passed a grayish, see through squishy blob about the size of a 50 cent piece with blood clots wrapped around it. I was out of town and didnt have anything to save this tissue in, so I didnt get to take it to the doctor when I got home. After I passed it, I was fine, and my midwife told me that she would not be able to tell what it was since it had been a few days since it happened. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? I hope this isnt too gruesome for anyone, it is just killing me because I don't have a true answer to what really happened, I was just hoping someone may be able to share a similar story that might give me an idea

It's too late to test. A blood test at the time would have shown pregnancy hormones. An appropriate decrease in those hormones would have indicated a miscarriage. Just guessing, but is sounds very much like a miscarriage. It could have been something else, but it does sound like a miscarriage. If you suspected you were pregnant or could have been pregnant, that supports the idea of a miscarriage. Otherwise, else is guessing. Try to put your mind at ease. You can only accept what you have and go on from there. My condolences regarding your loss. It hurts.

As a former paramedic, I must say this sounds like a spontaneous abortion(miscarriage). The grayish matter was most likely your placenta, and by the sound of it, I would say that you were still fairly early on in the pregnancy. Any time you have unexplained bleeding or discharge you see consult a doctor immediately!! As a future nurse, you really should know this. And yes, I have seen this in the field before.

Yes, usually when you bleed heavily that signifies a miscarriage.
When I was 11, my 18 year old sister was proud to have finally gotten pregnant. Then, one day,she strode to the front door of our house. I ran towards her . Then I saw it in her eyes. Tears stained her cheeks. Her sweet hazel eyes lost their glow. She told her story. The very same thing had happened to her as what happened to you. That night, she cried herself to sleep, as did I. I'm very sorry for your loss.
