Give a two-week notice, its never a good thing to burn bridges and one day you might need your current supervisor as a reference

Hi there!

Most jobs require that you give 2 weeks notice so that they can find a replacement. If you quit and leave today you aren't technically allowed to use them on your resume. So make sure to give them 2 weeks to be fair.

As far as how to go about doing it, writing up a professional letter is always a good idea. Keep it simple and to the point. State that you really appreciate the opportunity to work for them, but you feel that leaving your current position is something you think is best. Also give them 2 weeks starting the day you hand them the letter. Hand it to your boss/manager and tell them that if they have any questions to please let you know. This way they have a chance to read what you've said and you're not put on the spot trying to tell them in person. Also they have it in written form for legal reasons. I hope this helps, and good luck!! :)

The hardest job I ever had to quit was BSO in NY. I was only working there for a month and I was going to quit to move to AZ. I gave them two months notice though. When i told them I had an opportunity to move to Arizona that i just couldn't pass up, the owner said, unacceptable.
I was like... um i'm quitting and you can't tell me no i am not. The next day they tried to help me through my situation, they said that I was one of the best people they had in the position and that it took months to find me. Come to think of it, they never tried to give me more money which could have swayed my decision.

Anyway, no matter how you do it, there is no easy way. Its going to be hard.

You never want to "burn your bridges" behind you in case you want to get back over, so.... give your boss two weeks notice and explain that you have received a very good offer in another field. You need to do what's best for you and everyone understands that. Sometimes your boss can make a counter offer to entice you to stay, sometimes they can't. Either way you should give notice. PS. Be prepared to leave that week in case your boss is a total ninny and asks you to leave immediately. That usually happens if you are leaving them to go work for a competitor. Good luck in your new endeavor.

The best thing to do when you want to quit your job is to simply write a letter, explaining why you are leaving and explaining that it was a good experience to work with the company and that you may want to return in the future.

write a formal letter to your boss stating your final date of employment with the company will be XX/XX/07 (2 weeks from today). give the letter to your boss when u sit down w/ him/her to discuss your leaving the company. thank the boss for the opportunity to have worked w/ them. offer to help train your replacement. don't burn any bridges.

and if its truly a good career move, good for you. congratulations and don't look back.

Write a brief letter to your boss, explaining that you will be ending your employment with that company two weeks from now. It's customary to give two weeks' notice so they can make a start on finding a replacement before you leave.
