Maybe he thinks it it a rival male announcing his presence, so he answers back with a round of croaking. I had some green tree frogs years ago, when I was a kid. The males would start to croak whenever I played my radio/cassette deck or practiced my violin.

lol ...this is a first I've heard of this but anyways it's usually a male that croaks and it might think it's another male croaking or a female in the room...
