Your body most easily absorbs the iron in meats, poultry and fish. There is more iron "per pound" in green leafy vegetables like spinach and green beans, but your body doesn't absorb them quite as easily. It is good to combine the green leafy (tougher absorbing) iron with a vitamin C source like OJ for better absorbtion. There are always supplements too of course.Drink plenty of water because adding iron causes constipation if you change the amount your body normally gets.

my ob/gyn recommends that pregnant women do not eat liver of any kind, as though it is high in iron, it is also excessively high in vitamin A, which can be harmful to the fetus.

Green veg tables such as broccoli, collard greens and green beans. Even Cream of Wheat is a great source of Iron.
