We have a very active 9 mo. old beagle and have debated on getting a cat for a playmate for her. I don't know how she will like that though - or how the kitty would?! we thought about a cat that was less than a year but not a tiny kitten so it could hold its own with the dog, but we aren't sure. The beagle needs something to entertain her more than we can and I wondered if anyone had a beagle and cat?

I would suggest another beagle. Beagles are very hyper and play rough.

That depends solely on whether the dog likes cats and whether the cat likes dogs. If they don't like each other, then that won't be a nice situation. You dont want to have to seperate the two for the rest of your lives if they end up hating each other. I think you may be better getting another dog as a companion for your beagle.

Well, I know how you feel... when kittens are in the peak of 3-4 months, they might not make it. But, to get a new cat would be good now so that your kitten would get used to the other cat. If you are going to a shelter, try to get a cat not to older than her. If the cat you adopt is a year old, eh, that's okay. HINT (when you are at the shop, look at the cats and try to get a little close to the cage. if they come to you because of your scent, then you know that cat is right for you.) And when you get back home, they will be a lot of hissing and fights, PLEASE MONITOR THEM. Cats tend to play rough and you do not want your kitten hurt. It takes about a good week and a half for cats to get used to each other, so don't be patient. if you need any more help with cats or anything else, message me back.

It shouldn't be that hard. I have a 4 year old cat and a 8 month old toy fox terrier and they get along fine. Get a cat that is around 1 or 1 1/2 and they should be fine. Cats will get used to the change.

I have had success with getting a cat for the dog, but make sure it is declawed. If the cat likes to play "punching bag" with your dogs nose, then it would not be good if it had claws!! I would also get one from the animal shelter, where they will know if the cat can interact with dogs.

It just depends on the cats and dogs personality or animality at that. Some cats love other animals, while like my cat hates all other animals and just hisses at them. So good luck finding a match.
