I certainly do believe that they made such a prediction. I have no reason to doubt either the historians or others in the field regarding this matter. Do you believe that they made such a prediction?

The Myan calendar has no extra authority than any of the thousands of human beings that've anticipated the right of the international. so a procedures they have all been incorrect. Jesus - God - reported NO-ONE would understand the time. So, no-you may most likely make an precise prediction. Least of all a group of ignorant pagans.

"The end of the 13th b'ak'tun is conjectured to have been of great significance to the Maya, but does not necessarily mark the end of the world according to their beliefs, but a new beginning or time of re-birth."

Their "long count" calendar is based on 13 cycles. The first cycle in this iteration began in the summer of what we call 2720 BC and the 13th cycle (actually called number 12) ends in December 2012.

It is the Mayan equivalent of our Y2k (which, as we all saw, was the end of the world because all computers blew up and society crumbled back to the Dark Ages).

In any event, the Mayan calendar also predicts an important date for October 4772 (on a Friday 13th, no less!).

And yet the Mayan civilization ended several hundred years ago. That was pretty catastrophic in its own right.

Why weren't they able to predict that?

I suppose, but they also put people on giant table slabs, and stabbed their hearts so their gods would be pleased.

And they also had "ways" of "seeing" from "their world" into our world.

Mmmmmm.

No. They lived a thousand years ago. What did they know? Not a lot. What do we know? Quite a bit.

Where calendar? Oh, you mean *their* calendar. One grammatical slap on the wrist for you.

Anyway, this isn't astronomy, it's mysticism, and inappropriate for this section.
