Braces do not hurt, but when you first have them put on, or have them tightened, they do cause a lot of discomfort. On the first day I had mine, it just felt very tight, it usually starts to hurt from the second day to the fourth day, and on the fifth day, they stopped hurting, but my teeth felt VERY, VERY loose, and that is normal. I couldn't eat anything other than soup and pudding until one week has passed, from then onwards, they stopped hurting, but it still felt funny when you bite, I can't describe that feeling though.
I don't think braces look funny, they are just pieces of metal/ceramic stuck on your teeth, my opinion is that braces look better than having crooked teeth. I had a few people stare at my braces in public though, I would just give them a big smile to them, and they would smile back at me.
On the issue of color, I would suggest the norm, which is metallic, because I feel that any other color would make you look funny, but don't take my advice too seriously, it's only a personal opinion.
Good luck

I had braces 4 times in my life because I chose the wrong orthodontists. The first guy never had me get teeth pulled, so he botched it twice. I was a young kid then. The last guy was good, but I was 40 years old at the time. He did it with lingual braces (invisible braces). You may want to try that option if you are embarrassed by the look. The braces go on the inside of the teeth, and nobody can see them. Also, there is a new method of moving teeth without braces. It is called Invisalign. Here is their website link: http://www.invisalign.com/generalapp/us/en/what/index.jsp

THey aren't too bad- especially if your teeth aren't so bad either.... you just have to make sure you do what they tell you to do, otherwise they will keep them on even longer. What hurt me the most when I had them, was this activator- it helped pull my front teeth backwards to make them more in line with my bottom teeth- since I had an overbite. This hurt soooo bad when I had to activate it!!! Other than that, the braces themselves weren't so bad. I had mine on for two years. Not sure how they make them now, but for me, they had these rubber bands they put on the braces that were different colors- you can get any color you wish. You can get your school colors, your favorite colors, colors that go well with all of your clothing, etc. I got pink a lot because I love pink :) So just choose a color you like the best- you can get more than one color if you wish.
GOodluck!

No, braces aren't that bad. Yes, they do hurt sometimes (like when you have to get them tightened), but that only lasts a day or two, and then it's fine again. And besides, at the end, you'll have beautiful teeth! Plus, it's not like half the rest of your class didn't have to have braces at some point too, you know? They all know what you're going through!

I didnt like my braces at first but they are really not that bad. Normally I got the white color to match my teeth. But Baby blue and pink are really pretty to. Dont do green or brown that looks like funk on your teeth. They dont actually hurt your teeth are just sore when you get them tightened but they only hurt for a day. I got my braces off 2 years later and I love my smile

Ok, Braces as aren't as bad as people say. I got my braces on last year and they don't hurt until about a hour after you just get them put on and they don't really hurt it is just a really weird feeling. It is hard to eat with them at first but it takes some getting used to. A good color is somthing like Blue or Purple something bright that will show up good but don't ever get a light color like baby blue or light yellow they fade to easy. Stick with colors like bright Orange or hot pink. Also never get white because if u eat Cheetos or spagetti they change colorsLOL!!! And lime green makes your teeth look yellow.
Hope I Helped,
Hailee-Marie

I had braces for 7 years they aren't that horrible. They hurt when they were tightened, but a few tylenol before you get that done and it won't hurt. If you get regular braces they will be metal colored, then you have rubber bands that hold the metal band in place, so you get to change the color of the bands once a month, which is usually how often they are tightened. They have tons of color so you can use which ever one you like.

Braces do not hurt when they put them on or taken them off and usually they are fine. the only time they will hurt your teeth is when they tighten them (this makes your teeth straight). As for the color...I think you should just get the regular metal. The clear braces end up yellow due to the food and drink intake over the years. When I had braces I would put colored rubber bands on them to match the holidays...orange/black for Halloween, green/red for Christmas and so on. Depending on your age you may or may not want to have colored rubber bands on your braces. You can always opt for clear rubber bands!!
