I gained about 30 pounds total this pregnancy (I'm in my 40th week). I'm tall to begin with, and carrying nicely so the drs who have seen me have estimated similarly with what they think is the weight of the baby...they think she is a solid 8 pounds at this point. How much should I expect to lose during delivery and the first few days postpartum? I started out at 5 ft 8 and about 130 lbs, and have eaten healthy and exercised throughout the pregnancy. I am so excited to have this baby but also excited to see my old body at some point!

Just a quick reply to the first poster...no need to be a jerk in a reply! Of course my job is to be a good mom! I'm ecstatic and have wanted this for a long time. However, I am also a very healthy and active person and have always cared about how I look...it's not vanity to take care of your body and miss your old body while you're pregnant...it's called human nature! Ask most women...we all want to look nice pre and post pregnancy! It doesn't in any way reflect the sort of mother you will be to your child. Please, only constructive answers...thanks :)

Good for you. It is important to care not only about your baby but also yourself. Just eat right and continue your exercise as you have. You may have to start a little slow at first, but you will work your way back to your beautiful self.
My 1st child, I gained alot and took about 6 months to resemble myself. My 2nd it seemed like when I left the hospital I left all my weight and I had both c-sections.
Now this one looks like it it going to be different, I went from 5'10" 140 lbs to 171 lbs today at DRs office, I am only 14 weeks.AGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
it is not vain to be concerned about your weight, look at all the stuff in the media happening to overweight people. Good luck to you. As long as you eat right and exercise you will be fine.
Best of luck to you....Maybe you will have a New Years Baby!

From my experience, I gained 37 lbs throughout my pregnancy. I had lost about 12 when it was time to leave the hospital. My baby was 8 lbs 8 oz. I exclusively breastfed my baby and ate everything I wanted and I was almost back to my prepregnancy weight by my 6 week postpartum checkup. At my first drs appt, when I was 6 weeks pregnant, I weighed 102. The highest weight I got was 139. Then by my postpartum checkup I was 106. Breastfeeding really helps with dropping off weight. Or at least it did in my case! Whatever you do, don't exercise until you get the ok from your dr. He/She knows what's best for your body. You could really hurt yourself or go way overboard if you start too early. Also, you probably won't feel much like exercising and worrying about your weight for at least the first month or so because you will be getting up 3 or 4 times a night with the baby.

I gained 35 pounds during my pregnancy, lost only about 10 during delivery (with a 8 pound baby). The rest took about five months. Don't worry about the weight, it will go away in time.

You could loose anywhere from 10 to 15 pounds at delivery- then over the next four weeks you will most likley loose most of the rest - they say it takes a year for your body to get back to pre pregnancy shape but if you work at it - it could take way less

As the father of three children, I'd say - who gives a schitt? Your job is to be a great mom, not dwell on your vanity... That said, my wife's OB said it takes 9 months to gain all that weight, and it should take about the same amount of time to get back to pre-pregnancy weight.
In response to your additional information, I meant no offense. Your question just sounded like you were more worried about your vanity than your impending motherhood. I guess I got my screen name honestly.

If you breastfeed, you'll lose it quicker. Breastfeeding burns a lot of calories and causes your uterus to shrink back to it's pre-pregnancy size more quickly.
