I'm no liberal - conservative - etc. But I become really annoyed when I see answers (or even questions) that start off with "you liberals" or "liberals think this..or that" ... So now I peruse the questions and answers. If I see the word "liberal" I just move on.
I get so tired of "labels".....we are all different and we all have different ideas. "labeling" is so puerile..

It's true...it reduces complicated issues where both sides may have a point to the level of a football game--my team is better than your team, go team. Not a good way to accomplish things.

I'm OK with just the USE of the word "liberal". But when the supposed "question" is "you liberals think that......", I know my 1000 word rebuttal will NEVER get the 10 point best answer over somebody who just answers "Yes!". (It's not a question, it's 10 points for whoever agrees with my political rant). I post the 1000 words anyway because I like a challenge, I like to TRY to show people they are wrong, and besides I may educate someone other than the person who asked the question.

You should care, because some labels are accurate. There are 4 political categories:

(1) socially conservative and fiscally conservative (govt fiscal policiy) (e.g. most republicans)
(2) socially conservative and fiscally liberal (e.g. many southern democrats)
(3) socially liberal and fiscally liberal (urban and coastal democrats)
(4) socially liberal and fiscally conservative (NE republicans and Arnold Schwartzenegger for example)

I am (1) so I have no choice but to vote republican and the label conservative is accurate for me. People who say they are "in the middle" or "moderate" or "independent" are really just dazed and confused and dont stand for anything, generally speaking of course. Once they start taking positions, they see which of the 4 categories they belong.

Nothing wrong with labels so long as the user understands them. A conservative or liberal in europe is quite a different thing than what it means here in the USA for example, so you have to be careful sometimes when using those terms.

It's not just politics! Americans love labels, we eat it up!

New Age, Acid Rock, you name it it's got a label! It goes so deep, that it is barely recognizable sometimes. Just what is Contemporary American Cuisine, or Emo? Isn't all music emotional, and if a restaurant severs both Steaks and Seafood, what's the problem with it just being Joe's?

Thats all they have. It's easier to point a finger, than fix a problem. And trust me, democrats and republicans are screwing the american people and playing this partisan game!

The bad thing about it is, liberals are the main ones who resort to name calling.

I agree with you completely. Throughout history, there have been those who have been superpowers unchallenged by the world. When they are finally messed with, even slightly, their country divides and kills itself from within. Bipartisan efforts are key. No discrimination is necessary.
